A Week to Behold
Quite clearly some entity is after me - or at least my electronics. First my desktop computer, the power supply unit of which burnt out, and now …
When I started out to a computer shop to get a new unit to get my comp running again, for good measure I set up my routing device, a Navigon 4350max. I use it even when I drive somewhere I know, though in this case the vicinity of the shop is a town’s planning nightmare with a street that has ‘Ring’ [= circle] in its name but is more of a star drawn during a bad LSD trip. Another useful feature of the navigation device: it is a hands-free set, too.
Putting in the address. Hitting ‘Start navigation’. Device calculates. First route ready. Second route finished. No third option. Pushing first route. Nothing happens. Trying again. Nothing. No reaction. Screen frozen. Device frozen.
Whatever I tried, the Navigon 4350max is not responsive any more, except switching off and on to a frozen start screen. Luckily I can read maps and have an old city plan in the car - Hamburg in 1995 …
Let’s not dwell on the mediocre support of Navigon, the people are nice, everything else [from info on their Web site to having to call a premium phone number] is abysmal. And shouldn’t a navigation device last a little longer than 8 months?
Not all electronics gave up on me this week, most actually worked fine, in some cases better than expected [HTC Touch HD, here’s looking at you], but it looks suspiciously as if this week electronics and me didn’t quite go along.
